Pushing Limits on a Winter Summit

In early 2010, the Baffin team set their sights on a bold challenge – a winter summit of Mount Rainier, one of North America’s most formidable and unpredictable peaks. Rising 14,411 feet above sea level, Rainier is not only the highest mountain in Washington and the Cascade Range, but also one of the most dangerous active volcanoes in the world.

With its expansive glaciers, steep inclines and rapidly shifting weather, Rainier demands respect – especially in the dead of winter. Paul Hubner, joined by his son Brent Hubner and teammate Jad Simpson, trained rigorously in preparation for the ascent, knowing that success would depend on both physical resilience and dependable gear.

Outfitted in Baffin’s performance apparel system, the team moved with caution and confidence through deep snow and freezing winds. When a narrow weather window opened, they seized the opportunity—pushing through to the summit and proving once again that Real-World Testing® is more than a philosophy. It's how we build better gear.

This expedition not only marked a major milestone for the team—it also helped validate Baffin apparel in one of the harshest mountain environments on the continent.
