Powder, Prototypes and Product Progress
In 2006, the Baffin team headed to Mount Baker, an active volcano in Washington’s North Cascades known for being one of the snowiest places on Earth. It was the perfect setting for a climb-and-ski expedition that combined serious Real-World Testing® with a sense of adventure.
Paul, Mark and Brent Hubner were joined by members of the 2006 North Pole team, reuniting for a trek that would push product innovation on the mountain’s steep slopes and glaciated terrain. Classic Baker weather delivered a mix of wet snow, high winds and heavy precipitation – ideal conditions for testing new cold-weather gear.

The team field tested a hardshell jacket prototype, designed to resist wind and moisture while maintaining flexibility for alpine movement. They also trialed early versions of what would later become the CAMP HOODIE, a MERINO NECK WARMER, and Baffin’s Made in Canada TREKKER SOCK.
The combination of intense conditions and long days outdoors provided exactly the kind of environment Baffin counts on to refine its product line. And while the testing was serious, the shared experience – powder turns, mountain views, and great company—was a reminder of why we do what we do.
